Artist’s Talk and Reception: April 11, 2026 1:00 pm

Exhibit dates: March 31-May 3, 2026

Barbi Bailey-Smith is a teacher who is an artist, and an artist who is a teacher.

For 41 years Barbi taught art in Grades K-8, undergraduate classes at the university level, as well as Teacher workshops both locally and nationally. After retirement, Barbi and her yellow Labrador Retriever, Cooper, moved to Morehead City, NC. She is now a full time artist and uses a variety of media to create pieces that can evoke an emotional reaction, especially humor. Her work combines love of animals, and often art history, to create whimsical scenes on birdhouses and canvas. Currently Barbi specializes in pet portraits and children’s book illustrations. She is the illustrator for local author Deborah Van Dyken’s newest children's book, Elizabeth and the Baby Otter. Her work is exhibited both regionally and nationally, can be found in many public and private collections, and is currently on display at the Carolina Artist Gallery in Morehead City.

Reception to follow the presentation at Spoondrift, where you can purchase her art and the book. Sponsored by the Friends of the Bogue Banks Public Library
