Jaci has a great eye for coastal scenes, and Marshall is particularly drawn to wildlife and birds everywhere. Come and see this special approach to documenting our Atlantic coast which is driven by their love of nature, beauty, our heritage, and memorable moments. “LEGACY NC” MURAL FOR CARTERET COUNTY
Installation schedule and public participation

Carteret County, NC, October 24, 2025 – Artist Max Dowdle is leading the State-wide project “Legacy NC: 100 Murals in 100 Counties”. The Arts Council of Carteret County is sponsoring the project, providing funding and coordination with local stakeholders. The mural will be located on the large brick wall of the Carteret Community Theatre, 1311 Arendell Street in Morehead City.

The eight panels of the 90’-wide, 2-story mural will promote what makes Carteret County special: Arts & Leisure. And it includes a map of the Crystal Coast. Installation is scheduled to begin on October 27th and be completed by November 7th, weather permitting.

The project calls for community involvement, including donations, suggestions for the design, and helping paint sections of the mural. Stay tuned for the date and time for public participation during the first week of November.

In this two day workshop we will create mixed media pieces to honor memories we hold dear. We will look at other inspiring artists for ideas and create richly textured pieces. Please bring at least one print out of an image to incorporate from home or email your instructor to print the image several days before class. All materials will be provided including a wide variety of magazine images.

The opening reception for our Member's Show was held last Saturday, September 27, and it was amazing!

Carolina Artist Gallery is pleased to bring Tom McCabe down from his successful showing at the Bank of the Arts in New Bern of his show “Japan in Black and White.” This exhibition is part of and in juxtaposition to our new show “Something About Color.”

The show “Japan in Black and White” will run from August 9th - September 20, 2025. Join us for an opening reception this Saturday, August 9, 2025 from 4 - 6pm.

“Japan in Black and White” features black and white images printed on 9x 12 silver gelatin prints. The 20 photographs on display were selected from the many negatives McCabe collected during his stay in Japan. These images are a snap shot in time of life near Iwakuni over the period of 1997 - 2001. During his time in Japan, he taught basic photography and darkroom classes as he explored Japanese culture, noting the culture class of western influence in dress and urban architecture.

Tom McCabe is a retired Marine born in Chicago, Illinois. McCabe’s early art practices included drawing and painting, however he soon moved to photography with a Kodak Brownie in his later youth. Now residing in New Bern, North Carolina, he is a member of the Coastal Photo Club, and exhibits yearly in the group exhibition at the Bank of the Arts.

⏳ 1 MONTH AWAY! ⏳ Join instructor Dave Slyck for a Saturday afternoon at this unique opportunity to create an artful master piece using letters and your imagination!

Participants will use Scrabble letters to create projects of their own design using letters and various other items supplied including foam board, picture frames, ribbon, magazines, charms and other materials. Additionally, participants can bring their own supplies to incorporate in their creation. (There are a number of ideas for Scrabble Letter Art on Youtube and the Internet to inspire you!)

Participants must register online. Suitable for all ages. All materials are provided!

*When: Saturday, August 23 (12-4pm)

Join artist Bernice Abraham at an upcoming exhibition of her work at the Bogue Banks Public Library. Bernice will provide a presentation of her art on Thursday, July 24 at 2pm, followed by a reception in the Book Nook.

Bernice works in many different mediums, such as oil, watercolor, ink, and mixed media, has painted in many countries, and has even taught painting to the blind!

Exhibit runs through August 2. Thanks to Bernice for the generous donation of the painting “Beach Collection” for a silent auction. Bidding will end August 2.

The exhibition is sponsored by Friends of the Bogue Banks Public Library. The library is located at 320 Salter Path Road, Pine Knoll Shores, NC 28512. There is no charge and all are welcome!
