We will discuss and demonstrate composition and design.  Students will be challenged to create an outline drawing to include items of interest.  We will develop dramatic areas of color, saving our whites and mixing colors, creating dark contrast and interesting detail.

Instructor supplied materials include rock salt, liquid mask, erasers, and pipettes for pouring technique.

Student Material List:  Sketch Pad, mechanical pencil and pink eraser, 18” ruler, watercolor block (12” x 18”), palette or butcher’s tray, water container, spray bottle, sponges, paper towels and Kleenex, 6 small containers with lids, and several watercolor brushes including detail, medium rounds and 1” or 2” flat brushes.  The Winsor & Newton watercolor sable pointed round is especially useful.

It is important to have at least 2 light, 2 medium, and 2 dark of all primary colors.  Most professional brands are interchangeable and include Holbein, Winsor Newton, and Daniel Smith, as well as American Journey Watercolors.
