The instructor will focus on measuring proportions, value and color value. Students will also tone their canvases for the next day. The second day students will work from a model. Students will develop their portrait from an open grisaille to a closed grisaille and then into color. In painting the portrait, color temperature and color value will be addressed. Each morning a demonstration will be given to introduce the next stage of the process. Each afternoon students will enjoy one-on-one instruction.

About the Instructor

Irene Bailey, from Yorktown, VA, started her formal art training at the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts.

She received her Master of Fine Arts degree, in painting, from ECU. She continued her studies with Everett Raymond Kinstler, Nelson Shanks at Incamminati, Marvin Matelson and Daniel Green.

Some of Irene’s prominent portraits include: 22 portraits on the campus of East Carolina University, two 12’ x 8’ murals in Minges Coliseum, CEOs of Minges Pepsi Bottling Group, 12 portraits in six county courthouses in North Carolina. She also has done portraits for private homes across the country.

Irene is an international award winner from the Portrait Society of America, Portrait Society of Atlanta, Oil Painters of America, the Catharine Lorillard Wolfe Art Club in NYC, and the Allied Artists of America.
