About the event

Explore the issues central to painting and the function of developing one’s own creative voice. Come explore your passion, your inspiration, and ideas through process and use language to give voice to your vision. Working from your source material ideas will be developed with emphasis on awareness during making. Come develop a deeper understanding of your own inclinations and the role they play in your painting. *Bring your own supplies (oil, acrylic, watercolor, pastel, mixed, creative inspiration, etc.).  See Student Supply List for items student should supply.

Instructor: Liz Morton Award-Winning Coastal North Carolina Artist, Liz Morton loves to paint! Her paintings are mesmerizing with color, layers, and texture that can keep you engaged for hours.

Liz studied art at Appalachian State University (Boone and NYC), Barton College (Double Major: Printmaking & Commercial Art), The University of NC at Greensboro (MFA/Painting), Ghost Ranch, NM (Intuitive Painting), Washington DC (watercolor), and Morehead City (pastel). Liz has experienced significant international travel exercising every opportunity to talk with other artists and visit the studios, museums, and galleries along the way. Active in the Metropolitan DC area art scene for twenty years, she is now home in her beloved coastal NC.

A creative and engaging teacher, Liz has taught art in the public school system along with private lessons, studio sessions, and workshops in the Carteret County NC and Metropolitan DC area.

Member of The Society of Layerists in Multi-Media and The Arts Council of Carteret County. Currently represented at Carolina Artist Gallery, Impressions Art Gallery in Morehead City, NC and the Village Gallery, Oriental, NC.

For all Painting Workshops: Students can expect to work on multiple pieces to develop or expand their own personal color palette, abstraction, and texture while building on their body of existing work. We will be working in water media for the class however, the techniques learned are applicable to oil and cold wax painting as well. There are some items that each student should bring which are listed in the painting section of the Student Supply List. (Instructor supplied paints are acrylic unless otherwise indicated.) If the workshop says *bring your own supplies, you may bring any media (watercolor, acrylic, oil, cold wax, etc.) that you wish to work with, along with substrates.

 · Student supplied:

o At least 1 Substrate (e.g., primed canvas, board, or heavy   acrylic or watercolor suitable paper)

o Brushes

o Color pencils, watercolor crayons, graphite, etc.

o Palette knives (optional)

o Watercolor (if desired)

o Apron (if desired)

o Acrylic paint colors (other than the provided colors)

 · Instructor   Supplied:

o Nitrile Gloves and/or Gloves in a Bottle

o Palette Paper and/or hard pallets,

o Nova Texture Paste,

o Nova Acrylic Retarding Gel,

o Nova Matte Clear Gel/Varnish,

o 1 or more of the following substrates:

     16x20   Canson 185lb cold press

     9x12   Canson 140lb cold press

     16x20   primed canvas

o Isopropyl Alcohol.

o Cloth paper towels

o Studio wipes.

o Saran Wrap

o #106 Indian Yellow, #187 Pyrrole Red, #122 Ultramarine Blue, #186 Medium Violet, #182 Medium Green, #109 Carbon Black, #118 Titanium White, #100 Burnt Sienna , #107 Hansa Yellow and more.

Note:There are no make-up classes or fee reimbursement for student absenteeism. There is no prorated tuition for classes that the student cannot attend. The instructor or the Carolina Artist Gallery reserves the right to postpone classes due to circumstances beyond the instructor or CAG’s control, such as severe weather, staff illness, or other emergencies. Instructor will provide make-up classes for classes cancelled in these cases. CAG reserves the right to cancel any class due to insufficient enrollment. Refunds are issued for cancelled classes only. We make every effort to notify students of postponements and cancellations at least 24 hours before the first scheduled class. Dates and times are subject to change as necessary.
