Learn to create enameled art on steel by fusing powdered glass to metal in a kiln. All supplies are provided to complete a number of 4" samples as well as jewelry size pieces.
About the instructor, Debra Pagliughi: A Swansboro resident for over 40 years, Debra received her degree in marine biology from UNCW, taught 7th grade science for three years, then “remembered” that she wanted to be an artist. Throughout her 30 plus years as an artist, Debra explored many mediums and disciplines including graphic art, illustration, painting, printmaking, metalwork, fused glass sculpture and jewelry. Currently, and for the past decade or more, she focuses mainly on fused recycled glass and enameled copper and steel.
I have made art since I was a child. I have always been drawn to science and nature and the wonders of creation and the beauty in the commonplace. A tree, a garden, a marsh, the way they are illuminated, the night sky and every manner of creatures and people find their way into my art.
I find the melting of powdered glass to steel and the melting of recycled glass to be wonderful mediums for sketching the many inspiring moments of everyday life with energy and immediacy.
