BIO of Janet Nickle …

I can finally call myself a “local” as I have lived in this most beautiful area for almost twenty years after relocating from hectic pace of the Maryland/DC area. I had always dreamed of living by the ocean and feel so very fortunate to now have that dream realized thanks due to my husband who introduced me to the Crystal Coast after having been stationed at Cherry Point during his career as a Marine.

After finishing my graduate program in Art Education at the Maryland Institute College of Art in Baltimore, we made the move and now call Morehead City “HOME!”

I have almost twenty years experience teaching Art and Graphic Design for students in a variety of educational settings starting with Adult Education, high school, middle school, and special education first to eighth grade. I am now retired from the school system and am delighted to have more time to spend on the beach and PAINT! I am currently teaching a weekly art class to individuals in rehab at the Peer Recovery Center of Hope Mission as a volunteer through a grant from the Arts Council of Carteret County.

The focus of my art is eclectic with an emphasis on figure and portrait work particularly figures on the beach. I have also found that after spending time here on the coast the ever-changing light and colors of sky and sea also has become a part of my repertoire of favorite subjects though I do have to say that my lifelong favorite theme has always been horses. I am always delighted to be able to capture the beauty and spirit of them on canvas and paper particularly our beloved herd on Shackleford Banks!

Though acrylics have been my medium of choice for a while I am returning to using soft pastels and oils which are both my top choices for the joy of expression!

I am happy to say LIFE IS GOOD!
