About the event
The students enrolled with the Advanced Placement (AP) art courses from the three high schools of Carteret County Public Schools will showcase some of their prized creations during an art show hosted by the Arts Council of Carteret County (ACCC).
The show opens this Saturday, May 11th with a reception starting at 6:00 pm. The art represents the creations from students enrolled with Croatan High School, East Carteret High School, and West Carteret High School. The refreshments for the reception will be prepared by the students enrolled in the culinary departments of the three high schools.
The AP art courses are rigorous, college-level courses that students may take to gain a deeper understanding of art and their own artistic skills. They experience a study of 2-dimensional and 3-dimensional art, including graphic design, photography, collage, printmaking, sculpture, ceramics, digital drawing, and more. And rather than a traditional end-of-year paper exam, students create a portfolio of college-level work for evaluation.
"We are excited to view the work of these talented students," said ACCC Executive Director, Beverly Snowden. "Hosting an art show such as this one is important for the students, their families, and the community. Their commitment to creativity deserves to be viewed by the public. We are thankful for the teachers representing both the art and culinary departments of all three high schools, and of course, the talented students. We value their dedication," said Snowden.
The public is invited to attend the 6:00 pm to 7:30 pm reception this Saturday, located at the Arts Council, 1702 Arendell St., Morehead City. The art show will run for one week, closing at the end of the day on Saturday, May 18, 2024. The show hours are 11:00 am to 5:00 pm, Tuesday through Saturday.
