Artist Website:

I majored in science and spent 33 years teaching biology, chemistry and general science in Kenmore New York. I painted in my spare time and belonged to the Kenmore Art Society and the Tonawanda Council on the Arts. When we retired my husband Jack and I moved to the beautiful Emerald Isle beach. The contrast with the weather in Buffalo was amazing. I could devote my time and energy to creating art full time in my new studio. Images in my head, half buried, were surfacing to fruition.

I work with acrylic paint and additives. My work often includes textures built of sand, paper and found objects. The yin and yang of light and dark work against each other to create complex dynamics on the surface of the canvas. Color is a great mood achiever; it can sooth, excite, calm or invigorate. It can enhance moods. All my paintings employ color. They invoke happiness and joy. I have produced several series of paintings including a dragon series, variations of heart shapes, space routes and animal totem spirit paintings. Last year I was working on circles and arcs. Circles represent a completion and return to origin. Another inspiration has been a Girl with Hat series. Certainly not Carmen Miranda with fruit or flowers but a colorful abstracted splash of whimsey. I have a “Night” series of paintings which are predominately black but show bursts of bright colors. They have a 3D effect to represent the unusual forms things take on in the darkness. The geometric series is a chance to clear up my work which was getting busy looking and revert to a simple forms. They are built up using sand to provide texture. My paintings are happy and cheerful. I hope to make my buyers happy as well. All of my paintings are one of a kind and original. I do not make prints of my work.

I am an active member and former president of the Carolina Artists Studio Gallery in Morehead City where my work is always on display. Carolina Artists Gallery is a nonprofit gallery for local artists and is involved in community outreach programs. I also belong to the Community Artists Gallery in New Bern and the Riverwalk Gallery in Washington N.C.
